NEW QUEEN OF THE CASTLE!
The Castle Court Shopping Centre, Caerphilly has a new Centre Manager.
Marika Jones comes to the Centre with a wealth shopping centre experience, having spent the last six years at the Morgan Quarter Centre in Cardiff – initially as a temporary Centre Administrator in Centre Management before being asked to join the team full time.
In June 2015, her knowledge of the Centre, liaison skills with retail and residential tenants and contractors and her administrative skills ensuring that Health and Safety documentation was kept up to date, resulted in her being invited to take up the position of Assistant Centre Manager.
In this role, Marika worked closely with the Centre Manager in the running of the Centre and her administrative skills proved invaluable working with the Management Surveyor ensuring compliance with regulations and health, safety, environmental and security standards.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Morgan Quarter,” says Marika. “While I was there, I gained a great insight into the running a shopping centre and what makes it tick.”
“The varied and demanding work I undertook during my time at the Centre will be invaluable in my new position as Manager of Castle Court.
Marika studied Business and Finance at the University of Glamorgan and from 1993 to when she joined the Morgan Quarter, had several Administrator positions including one for the City Centre Management, Cardiff Council and Clerk to the Governors at Derry Hill School in Calne.
“I took a career break in 2007 to bring up my son, but during that time, I helped out at a local play group then, when he started school, helped on the Parent Teacher Association before becoming a Parent Governor,” continues Marika.
In her spare time, Marika enjoys spending time with her son – 15 year old Rhydian, running, cycling, skiing and walking. She is a keen baker and socializing with friends at music festivals and concerts. She is also a Scout Sectional Assistant with the Penarth & District Scout Group.
“I have been working at the Centre several days a week over the last couple of months and am really enjoying being part of this Centre. Since I have been here, we have already run several very successful promotions and have more planned over coming months,” says Marika. “Now that I am here full time, I am looking forward to the new challenges and maintaining the important role the Centre has in Caerphilly.
